In the past when I have written blogs about West End icons, I have chosen some of my favourite local haunts. I have had no connection to the businesses other than loving their vibe. But I was thinking today, I should give a shout out to two West End icons that I am proud to say are also favourite clients.
We recently took on the bookkeeping for South Brisbane Sailing Club. You’ve probably seen their club house if you’ve ever walked on the river path towards Orleigh Park. They are not only a bunch of great peeps but are also sitting on some of the best real estate in Brisbane. The club has been around for 118 years and at it’s current site since the 50’s. It’s well run by a bunch of enthusiastic and friendly volunteers who love sailing and sharing their skills through lessons and races. But you don’t have to know port from starboard to enjoy the club house. You could pop in for a beer or even hire the event space with a fabulous view to impress the most discerning insta crowd. Magic!
Our other West End icon is Sticky Fingers Providore. I have been working with Katie and Simon since they started their first business together in 2015. They have been on a hospitality journey, especially over the last 18 months with the dreaded COVID. But they are still here, still thriving and bursting with ideas on how they can make their loyal fans love them even more. Their underlying ethos is “Sustainable, Accessible, Equitable” and they have a huge selection of products both online and in store that fit the bill, but that also taste delicious. Catering, for both mid-week dinners or any event, is still part of their wheel house. Or you could pop in for a bacon and egg wrap on your way down Montague Road and see why my other half calls her “Katie-cakes”. You are likely to get a noisy “Hello mate” or an entertaining dance routine that you’ll be unlikely to get at your usual cafe. Both the coffee and the friendliness are worth the visit. I love them to pieces.
