Lightening the load

It has been a big couple of weeks. Not only have we moved out of our home and had a sneaky (but quick) vacation. We have also embraced a sea change. We are a week in, and already, I can feel a total change of pace. You would think that going from an inner-city apartment to house-sitting in a sleepy coastal hamlet would cause angst, but none of that here. I am loving it. My city life was always so frenetic and busy, it has been amazing just to slow down and breathe. My shoulders are no longer up near my ears, and I feel lighter in spirit, just by being able to hear and see the ocean every day. Long may this feeling of peace continue. It will have its work cut out in July, but I am forever hopeful.

So, does this change of pace in life mean work has slowed down? No, siree-bob! Despite moving from the big smoke, Appy Central is still fielding calls from new clients looking for the Appy treatment. And we are happy to oblige. There is nothing we like better than getting to know both a client and their data and making their life that little bit easier. I am actually thinking this move may even be great for business. Judging by all the tradie vans that are parked in the nearby streets, there are small business bookkeeping opportunities aplenty. Watch this space!

The other big news this week is that I am a finalist in the Australian Accounting Awards 2024 for Bookkeeper of the Year. I am feeling very chuffed and excited. This fabulous industry has afforded me a wonderful, flexible long-term career and I feel very honoured that the efforts of a little solo practitioner (previously) from Queensland, have been noted and applauded. Now to find a frock for the gala. The downside of house-sitting is that all my fancy clothes are in storage. The upside is I get to shop! Wish me luck … for both the shopping and the awards.

Stay ‘Appy!
